Overview

Someone licensed to deal with the IRS for you

Most IRS and New York State notices are routine and many are simply wrong. The problem is that they do not read that way, and the deadline on them is real whether or not the underlying position is.

The first step is almost always the same: work out what the agency actually thinks happened, which is usually narrower than the letter suggests.

Do not ignore it and do not pay it immediately. The deadline matters and the amount frequently does not survive scrutiny. Send it over and we will tell you which of the two it is.

Formal representation before the IRS requires a credentialed representative, and that scope is confirmed case by case. Where a matter needs representation we are clear about who is carrying it before any work starts.

Scope

What is included in irs representation

Work is scoped to what you actually need. In most engagements it covers:

  1. Notices

    • IRS notices read and answered
    • New York State and New York City notices
    • Response deadlines tracked so none lapse
  2. Audits

    • Documentation assembled and presented
    • Correspondence and in-person examinations
    • Appeals where the result is wrong
  3. Balances owed

    • Installment agreements
    • Penalty abatement requests
    • Back taxes and collection matters
  4. Getting current

    • Prior-year and delinquent returns
    • Amended returns to correct earlier positions
    • Record reconstruction where documentation is thin

What this covers

  • IRS and New York State notice response
  • Audit support and documentation
  • Tax debt and collection matters
  • Payment plans and installment agreements
  • Penalty abatement requests
  • Prior-year and delinquent return filing
  • Amended returns to correct earlier positions
  • Record reconstruction where documentation is thin

Problems we fix

What usually brings people to this work

These cost money quietly, and they get more expensive the longer they sit.

A letter you cannot read

Most notices are routine. A few are not, and telling them apart is the whole job.

A deadline on the page

Response windows are short, and missing one removes options you had the week before.

More owed than you can pay

There are structured answers to this. Ignoring it is not one of them.

Returns never filed

The IRS can file one for you, without a single deduction in your favor.

Who it is for

Who uses irs representation

If you recognize yourself in one of these, a short call is usually enough to tell whether this is the right service.

Anyone holding a notice

Federal, New York State or New York City, for a person or a business.

Taxpayers under examination

Correspondence audits and field examinations alike.

People carrying a balance

Back taxes, penalties and interest that need a plan rather than a drawer.

Nonfilers

Several years behind and wanting to get current without making it worse.

How it works

How irs representation runs

Four stages. Most of the value sits in the first two, before anything is filed.

  1. Read the notice properly

What it says, what it is responding to, and what the real deadline is.

  2. Pull the record

Transcripts and filings, so the response is built on what the IRS actually sees.

  3. Respond on your behalf

The written response, the documentation and the follow-up calls.

  4. Resolve and stay current

An agreement, an abatement or a corrected return, and a plan so it does not repeat.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

I got a letter and I am panicking. What now?

Send us the notice before doing anything else. Most are automated matching letters where the agency has seen a form you already reported differently, and they resolve on paper.

I owe more than I can pay. Are there options?

Usually. Installment agreements, and in some cases penalty abatement where there is reasonable cause. What is available depends on the amount, the age of the debt and whether returns are filed, which is why filing first matters even when you cannot pay.

Can you deal with New York State as well as the IRS?

Yes. State notices are common here and the two agencies do not coordinate, so it is normal to be dealing with both at once over the same underlying issue.
