Overview
Books kept current, not rebuilt every spring
Most of the tax problems we see started as bookkeeping problems. A misclassified expense, an unreconciled account, an owner draw recorded as payroll. None of them look urgent in June and all of them cost money in April.
Planning off a bad trial balance is guessing with extra steps. So this is where the work usually has to start.
This is the part most small firms skip. Slava spent twenty five years in banking compliance and audit oversight, building control frameworks against GLBA, SOX and the New York DFS cybersecurity regulation. The same thinking applies to a twelve person business, just smaller.
Who can approve a payment. Whether bank access is shared. Whether the person recording cash is the person handling it. Whether your records would survive someone asking to see them. These questions cost nothing to answer early and a great deal to answer late.

Problems we fix
What usually brings people to this work
These cost money quietly, and they get more expensive the longer they sit.
Books nobody trusts
If the reports do not tie to the bank, nobody uses them to decide anything.
Months behind
Every month that passes costs more to fix than the one before it.
A chart of accounts nobody designed
Fifty categories, several of them duplicates, and no way to see margin.
Owner draws run through payroll
A classification problem in June that becomes a tax problem in April.
Who it is for
Who uses bookkeeping and accounting
If you recognize yourself in one of these, a short call is usually enough to tell whether this is the right service.
Owner-operated businesses
Anyone who needs a real monthly close without hiring someone in-house.
Dealerships and sales finance
Floor plan interest, inventory and cost of sale, finance and insurance income, dealer reserve.
Contractors and the trades
Job costing that ties back to the ledger, retainage and subcontractor reporting.
Professional practices
Trust and operating account separation, partner allocations and accrual timing.
How it works
How bookkeeping and accounting runs
Four stages. Most of the value sits in the first two, before anything is filed.
Look at what exists
The current file, the bank feeds and the last month anyone actually reconciled.
Clean up the history
Past months reconciled and categorized before anything new gets built on top of them.
Close every month
A fixed schedule, with statements that arrive without being chased.
Review the numbers with you
Reports walked through, so they answer the question you actually have.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Our books are a mess. Is that a problem?
It is the normal starting position. Cleanup is a defined piece of work with an end, and we would rather do it properly once than build a year of planning on top of numbers nobody trusts.
Do you work in QuickBooks?
Yes, including setup, cleanup and conversions from other systems. If you are already on something else that works, we are not going to move you for the sake of it.
Can you run our payroll?
Yes, along with the payroll tax compliance that goes with it. Payroll is also where worker classification gets decided, and getting that wrong is expensive in New York.
How often will I see numbers?
Monthly, as a rule, with the reporting shaped around what you actually decide from. A statement nobody reads is a cost, not a service.
